Double-click conversation.exe

Windows might show one of two warnings — we haven't paid for code-signing yet (next on our list).

"Unknown publisher" (blue dialog) →

Click More info → Run anyway. That's it.

"Smart App Control blocked an app" (Win 11, dark dialog with no "Run anyway") →

Click Okay to dismiss the dialog, then in your Downloads folder:

Right-click conversation.exe → Properties → tick the Unblock checkbox at the bottom → OK. Then double-click again.

If Smart App Control still blocks it (it cross-checks Microsoft's cloud reputation list, not just download zone): Settings → Privacy & Security → Windows Security → App & browser control → Smart App Control → Off.

Heads-up: turning Smart App Control off is permanent on that laptop — it can only be re-enabled with a Windows reset. Acceptable tradeoff to most parents installing trusted apps, but worth knowing.

Type your code when asked

A small console window opens. Press Enter for the backend URL (default is fine), then type the code below and press Enter again. Optionally name the device.

Close the window

The agent is now running quietly. It will start again every time the laptop turns on. No taskbar icon, no popups.

Open Terminal and run it

⬆️ Download the agent first using the macOS button above — the file must be in your ~/Downloads before these commands work.

macOS doesn't trust an unsigned binary from the web until you tell it to. Open Terminal (⌘ Space → "terminal"), then click Copy and paste:

The Copy button copies only the commands — no comment lines, so nothing errors in the shell.

Type your code when asked

The agent prompts for a Backend URL (press Enter to accept the default) then the pairing code. Type the code below and press Enter. Optionally name the laptop.

Grant Screen Recording permission

macOS needs your explicit OK before any app can see what's on screen. The agent will pop a dialog and open the right settings pane automatically. You'll see this once:
1. System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording
2. Click the + button → navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Conversation/conversation → Open
3. Toggle the new entry on
4. If macOS asks you to "Quit & Reopen" — just close the dialog. The agent restarts itself.
Heads up: macOS Sequoia weekly reminder →

Starting in macOS 15 (Sequoia), Apple shows a weekly notification listing apps that captured the screen recently. The agent will appear in that list. This is Apple keeping you informed, not a problem.

Close Terminal

The agent installed itself as a LaunchAgent — it will start automatically every time the Mac logs in. No menu bar icon, no Dock entry, no notifications.
